Debit Card or Credit Card?

These are a tough economic times.  Surviving rough times is very difficult for most citizens.  I ask you this very simple question?  Are you using a credit card or a debit card?  Both cards are different but they serve the same purpose and have different benefits.

I have both a  debit card and a credit card. I use my debit card if I have the money on hand and prefer to save service charges.  However, my credit card comes in handy when I don’t have the money when I see something I want now.

Merchants really prefer a credit card. A credit card holder has more protection when he uses a credit card.  If you purchase goods and there is some damage to the goods, you can always return the goods with little hastle.  When  an item is charged to your credit card without your knowledge you have the benefit of disputing the charge.  These are just a few advantages of using a credit card and these benefits are not free unless you pay your full amount each month.

The debit card is better for that person who like to spend money and don’t keep good records. Some banks protect the debit card against fraud but always check.  I am not a fan of the debit card but use it with caution.  Be a smart consumer.  Keep thinking until next time.

Boom! What A Surprise.

What’s up Consumers?
Been a while since sharing some information to keep you up on the happenings. I commented on the impact that housing foreclosures would have on the housing industry but no one expected a global meltdown. Real Estate was doing extremely well and look at the problem on the countrie’s hand.

Many people going to get hurt in many ways over the next few years. Credit will get tight, jobs will be lost, living situations are going to change.  Many of us have never gone through a recession or a depression before. What are you going to do? I wanted to discuss other consumer topics with you but events have been occuring so rapidly I’ve had a difficult time concentrating on one topic and sticking with that topic.

Sorry gang, there is not a quick fix. I know that everyone has gotten use to spending money freely, but prepare yourself before its too late.  Survive the debt trap or tomorrow could be a ways off.  I hope there is something good to talk about next time, Peace.

No Down Payment!

Are you trying to purchase a car? Land? furniture? or home? No down payment once mean’t an opportunity to acquire something you wanted badly. Credit did not play a major issue in the price you pay or the interest rate you were charged.

No down payment is just another way to get more money out of you. The real story behind no down payment is more money is financed. If you don’t have good credit, you are given a high interest rate. This rate is charged for a longer period of time or you pay a larger monthly amount.  At car dealers they require that you pay weekly or several times a month. In the end you pay two to three times what the property’s sale price.

The opportunity cost is too high and the transaction reflects a bad light on your credit for at lease seven years if you don’t pay the loan off. When you make a down payment you are financing a smaller amount. In fact if you can’t put a payment down, your budget maynot be able to handle the extra expense. If you can wait and do some looking around, you can find a better deal. How do you avoid this trap?

Credit Check Up!

Hi Citizens of America:  Gas prices are coming down are you happy.  Have you started changing  spending habits yet. The worst is yet to come. Is your credit bad or fair? Have you checked your credit file this year? Its time to check it again.

If your credit is bad you are prehaps running from the debt collector. Have you thought about debt settlement companies?  Their promises sound tempting, yes.  They promise to lower your interest rate or even eliminate it altogether. Can they really do that? They only bank your money in an account until they think youraccount can be settled. They may encourage to set up a special account yourself.

These companies are For - Profit companies. There are many agencies out there trying to make money off of desperate consumers having debt problems. They make claims that they can make your credit go away like magic.  These claims are geared to make you buy an expensive product it is selling and you will often get further in debt.

The road to financial recovery takes time and paying your debts.  I can verify this. Sometimes problems come out of left field. Do you know what to do? Reduce your stress and let a debt survivor work with you. Let us know what’s on your mind. Find more important advice and financial facts at http://www.debtsurvivor.org.

No Problem! No Problem! - High Interest.

You, prehaps, have heard commericals pretaining to purchasing a car, borrowing money, purchasing a house and other items of property. There target market is people with bad or no credit.  When you hear the words ” have on credit - no problem, have bad credit - no problem; judgements against you - no problem! We can get you financing.

Those are very assuring words - sucker. Allow me to share my story with you.  Once I worked for mortgage company several years ago, originating mortgage loans.  I thought this was a company truely interested in wanting to help others.  I found out that the underwriter actually made the final decision and I was the one playing my clientele.  I decided to change what I did after taking enough training classes on how to play on the innocent people that had made a mistake in life and was ignorant like me.

Now I work to help citizens become aware of some of the creative ways many dealers seek to put you in a worst position financially than you are.  Checking your credit with credit bureaus at lease a couple times a year.  I just want to open your eyes on one of the simpliest ways car dealers get over.  If your credit is questionable, stay away from we finance  dealers or brokers. Be alert when they offer you weekly payment plans; walk away because you can do better.  Mortgages have similar situation.  Do your research and don’t rely on others. The economy and families are victims of the sub-prime lenders. One of the most catchy phrase is “as low as”. Learn the key phrase and be sharp.

I recently read an article concerning some of the bank tricks used.  The article said that banks has a pre set interest rate or threshold for most clients. We can say now more than ever if it sound to good to be true don’t get punk’d. Get some help.  There are many places sponsored by your non-profit agencies that are free.  Check with your local colleges - continuing education department churches or community affairs.  We can help each other.  What you think?

High prices -Economy

Citizens:

Everyone seems concern with high gas prices. When are we going to take supressive actions?  Foreclosure is taking a
huge toll. We all hope that the election of a new president will produce an economic change.  Sadly enough, the prices will not be rolled back anymore than the families will get the home that was loss back.

Its time to take control of our spending. Don’t waite until you lose your job until you lose your job until you take action.  A new president can only place controls on the rising prices for food, gas, and products.  Don’t the banks lenders and other companies have a lot of room to find ways to charge more for goods and services.

What do you plan to do to help control the outrageous prices for goods and services?  We would like to know how you plan to slow down this economy.

Magic Jack?

I am sure many of you have heard about “Magic jack” the free local and long distant phone company.  I don’t know much about this product but the secrecy of this company bring about suspicion regarding this company.  I have tried to find out information about this company and been a partial failure.  From the time I attempted to purchase this product, I tried to contact the customer service. There is no customer service.

However, magic jack will loop you stating you will talk live with customer care it never happen.  They don’t send you a receipt with the product.  The company don’t send you an email yet they require you to register with them. The product is fair not exceptional.  The claim of free local and long distant calling attract much attention.  Try the product for 20 days not thirty.  I was billed $49.99 with no explanation.  I assume arround $30.00 for the unit and $19.99 for one years service or ph#. Must return within thirty days.

I caution everyone not to get all caught up with this device.  How much does usage of this magic jack really save you.  Whenever you use a service like this, you must consider the installation cost.  You must have a 1) landline, 2) high speed internet, 3) $19.99 yr. to use the service and 4) electricity because your computer must stay on all the time.  Add all of these cost and divide it by 12.  We call this opportunity cost.

Is the cost worth the money you are spending?  It is if you spent a great amount of your time calling and talking to others.  This technology is not new. Vontage use the same technology but they charge you a monthly fee and magic jack charge you off the top. Shop around you may find a better deal just the price will broken down differently. Be money wise and financially smart.
